SONG SAA PRIVATE ISLAND RESORT | CAMBODIA

Some people dream about going on a holiday. Anywhere. As long as there is a body of water and plenty of sunshine. Some dream even bigger – of having their own private island. That is if money were no object… So, how about a compromise? You can holiday on a beautifully serene private island if you visit Cambodia, and the Song Saa resort, situated in the unspoiled Koh Rong Archipelago.

The resort is located on two islands called Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, which are known collectively as ‘Song Saa’ or ‘The Sweethearts’ (in Khmer language). The islands are linked by a footbridge over a marine reserve since the resort’s management is adamant on protecting Song Saa’s coral reefs and sea life (dugongs, tropical fish, seahorses). After all, Song Saa’s motto is “luxury that treads lightly”.

The Song Saa resort is all about simple understated luxury. The guest villas, all 27 of them, are unpretentious, tasteful and elegant, reminiscent of a Cambodian fishing village. But don’t be fooled by their unaffected exterior. They have everything that your heart desires – king-size beds, indoor and outdoor showers (with Aesop skin, hair and body products), Wi-Fi, well-stocked mini bars, dry cleaning and laundry service, satellite TV, espresso machines, integrated Bose sound system complete with iPod dock… Children are more than welcome, since the resort also provides babysitting services. There is even a kids club.

And this is not all, you can lounge at the Song Saa’s large infinity pool, pamper yourself at the spa and wellness centre hanging over the rainforest, relax at a yoga and meditation centre, visit a water-sports centre (wakeboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, paddle boarding), or participate in an environmental programme and experience firsthand the island’s flora and fauna.

And the guests say that the food here is divine. If you are not too keen on experimenting, the chef will even prepare you a pizza and French fries. Of course, haute cuisine dishes are also served.
