Unreal Engine – Key Technology Behind The New Electric Car From Sony

With each new year it becomes obvious that modern companies cannot exist without advanced software and hardware technologies implemented in their product. The prime example for that is the new electric car from Sony. The Japanese brand has collaborated with Honda to build a car, while the software for this vehicle is provided by the famous team of Epic Games. They contacted the Software Development Firm to get a proprietary version of the Unreal Engine 5. At first it may seem like a very strange idea, because in the past, this technology was used for video games only, but in the recent years, it was inherited by many moviemakers, designers and security companies as a tool to create 3D objects that will look like they were took from real life

What Are The Futuristic Features Of This Car?

Sony Car “AFEELA” is not the first one to implement the revolutionary engine from Epic Games. Fortnite has already worked with Volvo to provide a decent solution for European customers. Back then, the function they were working on for the car was called “Driver Information Module” (DIM). The primary goal was to create a 3D model on the frontal display of the vehicle to make sure that a driver will get the most informative compilation of data gathered from different sources, such as the internet and the environment surrounding the car.
This time the situation is a little bit different, because Sony has already created an almost perfect Human Machine Interface (HMI) that looks very similar to the operating system of their PlayStation family of consoles. The main objective of the Epic Games company in the case of “AFEELA” is to give a driver a 3D model of the surroundings. As a basis for building a 3D model of the environment, the indicators of the machine’s sensors will be used. In particular, this applies to 42 cameras installed around the entire perimeter of the car. Thus, the vehicle will be able to see the potential danger on the road and warn the driver about it.

How Long Does It Take To Develop A Custom Software?

The development time for a custom software project can vary greatly depending on a number of factors. These factors include the complexity of the project, the size of the development team, and the resources available to the project. In general, small projects with a limited scope and a small development team can be completed in a matter of weeks or months. However, larger and more complex projects, like the UI or 3D model structure for electric cars can take several months or even years to complete.

One of the biggest factors that can impact the development time of a custom software project is the complexity of the project. A car project involves a large amount of functionality or a high level of technical complexity will take longer to develop than a simple project with limited functionality.

Another important factor to consider is the size of the development team. A larger team will be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, which can help to speed up the development process. However, a larger team can also lead to increased coordination and communication overhead, which can slow down the development process. Finally, the resources available to the project can also have a significant impact on the development time. Projects that have access to a large budget and advanced technologies will be able to move faster than those that are constrained by limited resources.

Overall, the development time for a custom software project can range from a few weeks to several years, depending on the specific circumstances of the project. It is important to carefully consider the complexity of the project, the size of the development team, and the resources available when estimating the development time for a custom software project.
