SOUTHERN OCEAN LODGE | KANGAROO ISLAND

Being the first often implies being the best, and this can certainly be said for Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island in Southern Australia. This is the first luxury lodge in whole of Australia and a resort that is still unbeaten by competition in many of aspects. Let’s talk about the location first.

Southern Ocean Lodge is situated on the third largest island in Australia – Kangaroo Island – which is also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Australia, with over 140,000 visitors annually. The resort also lies amidst a habitat populated by kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, snakes, possums, Australian sea lions, and ospreys.

The first striking feature of Southern Ocean Lodge is its architecture – the clean and polished outline, and the resort virtually blending in with the secluded cliff on which it is situated (providing for some truly amazing views). Everything about the resort is a six-star experience.

There are twenty one deluxe suites with bespoke furniture, opulent sleeping quarters, glass-walled en-suite bathrooms with rain showers and hand cut limestone walls. Some suites have floor to ceiling glass walls with breathtaking panoramic views of Hanson Bay. All suites include complimentary bar, walk-in wardrobe, climate control, heated floors, housekeeping twice a day and Internet.

Eating and drinking at the resort is another unforgettable experience thanks to Chef Tim Bourke and his team who insist on using nothing but locally grown ingredients. Why not indulge in freshly made gnocchi with salty KI ‘samphire’, a petite king crab salad or maybe a selection of cheeses with KI sheep’s milk manchego and haloumi? Of course, don’t forget to order some fine vintage wine or French Champagne from the resort’s wine cellar.

For some relaxation and rejuvenation, visit Southern Ocean Lodge’s spa called The Southern Spa. Apart from traditional spa and wellness treatments, there are a few cutting edge ones to try – like Li’Tya relaxation massage inspired by traditional Australian Aboriginal techniques or Kodo Rocks massage with warmed basalt stones from North Western Australia.

Southern Ocean Lodge prides itself in being “sensitive, intimate and sophisticated”, and we couldn’t agree more. [via] watch video below
