SONY 4K HANDYCAM FDR-AX100
Lack of 4K material is a problem for all buyers who opted to purchase 4K televisions which make the most of this resolution that is up to 4 times better than the best commonly found sets. Until 4K resolution becomes standard, Sony provided the buyers with the opportunity to create their own 4K footage. First they launched the FDR-AX1 which was the first 4K handycam. And it is just great. But the AX100 might just beat is easily.
First of all, the AX100 has far more rights to be called a handycam. With the dimensions of 196.5 x 83.5 x 81 mm (7.7 x 3.3 x 3.2 inches) it is 74% smaller than the AX1 and 66% lighter. Can you imagine how easier this is to carry around and operate? Granted, the AX100 is still a bit bigger than most handy cameras out there, but none of them can offer such quality in a package of this size. Additionally the AX100 is more than half the money down from the AX1 with their respective prices being $1,999 and $4,499. Great job, Sony. Let’s see what else the Sony 4K AX100 can offer.
The 4k AX100 handycam has a 1in Exmor R CMOS sensor that is back-illuminated and it enables you to capture still images with the quality of 20 megapixels and videos with the resolution of 3840 x 2160 with the standard version of the XAVC codec, while dual video recording records footage in XAVC S (or AVCHD) and MP4 HD formats simultaneously.
The processor is a BIONZ® X Processor and it allows 120 fps recording, but the image is also enhanced using ‘area-specific noise reduction and detail reproduction technology’. Clear footage is ensured using the Optical SteadyShot stabilization. Full resolution videos are available at 24 or 30 fps, while slow motion capabilities rise up to 120 fps.
The amazing Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* F2.8-F4.5 lens is a special story. It employs seventeen different elements to provide stunning performance. Apart from extra-low dispersion and advanced aspherical elements, you also get 12x optical zoom, but employment of Clear Image Zoom in UHD resolution increases the zooming capabilities to 18x.
Other additional features include the four different filter settings, NightShot infrared mode and the amazing My Voice Cancelling feature that reduces the sound that comes from behind the camera while keeping full volume and quality of the subject’s voice.
WiFi connection and NFC are a must with these products and they are also present here, so you can connect your iOS or Android device easily allowing uncomplicated content playback, but also remote operation.
The AX100, even though it is a pioneer in this field, is a great product. Anyone who appreciates high quality footage should take a look at this product on Amazon.
