OMEGA SPEEDMASTER GREY SIDE OF THE MOON WATCH

Remember the OMEGA Speedmaster Mark II 2014 we featured a while ago on our website? Well, following the worldwide success of their lunar conquest-inspired wristpiece series that also includes the popular Speedmaster ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ released earlier this year, the famous Swiss watchmaker OMEGA decided to add a new piece to the space legacy edition – inspired by the lunar dust that captured mankind’s first steps on the moon, the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon is a state-of-the-art wristwatch crafted from pure ceramic and platinum for a sophisticated yet modern look and reliable OMEGA performance.

Built from white ceramic rendered metallic grey through exposure to high heats and coupled with a sand-blasted 950 platinum dial, the Speedmaster ‘Grey Side of the Moon’ is another wristwatch in the OMEGA line that pays homage to human lunar explorations. The 44.25 millimeter white ceramic case is first subjected to the ‘plasma heat treatment’ – that is, it’s exposed to an unbelievable 20,000º C for three hours in a plasma chamber – to produce the shimmering grey hue (and that’s not just a coating or finish, mind you – the whole case is rendered metallic grey, through-and-through). After that, the freshly plasma-heated case is carefully polished to achieve the ideal balance of brushed and polished surfaces, and is then paired with an elegant sand-blasted 950 platinum dial with black plated hands. The brushed ceramic bezel sports a Super-LumiNova tachymetric scale with engraved numbers and marks for simple time reading in any given light, and according to early previews, the textured platinum dial is considerably more legible than the one found in the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ due to lighter color tone.

Inside the metallic case, the expert OMEGA craftsmen placed a Caliber 9300 Co-Axial automatic chronograph movement, one of the finest movements currently executed by the Swiss watchmaker. The 9300 Co-Axial movement powers the main 12-hour chronographic dial, two sub-dials and a date window found on the face of the watch. The Speedmaster ‘Grey Side of the Moon’ further boasts a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal caseback (both sides of the crystal are previously subjected to anti-reflective treatment) and a set of stylish grey leather straps with red stitchings on the underside for a fashionable twist of the time-honored classic elegance. And last but not the least – all this timepiece goodness comes packed inside a special presentation box for the recognizable and classy OMEGA design.
