The Olympus OM-D E-M10 camera might be one of the best options for the price, especially having in mind that it actually has some better features compared to the E-M5, which might seem logical when you look at their names. However, the surprising thing is that the E-M10 is actually cheaper. Are a few features in the E-M10 that are weaker than in E-M5 the reason for the reduced price, or is this a bargain everyone was waiting for?
The OM-D E-M10 comes for the price of $699 for the body only and for $799 when paired up with a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. For this kind of money you get several features from significantly more expensive cameras such as with the TruePic VII image processor that you can also find in the E-M1. Shared with the E-M5 you will find the the 16 MP Live MOS sensor, 25,600 max ISO, 1.44-megapixel electronic viewfinder and built-in WiFi. The E-M10 also features the 8fps high-speed sequential shooting with 81-point AF or, if you opt for continuous autofocus, 3.5 frames per second.
For the Olympus E-M10 you can also get the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 power zoom or lightweight 25mm f/1.8 lens which cost $350 and $400 respectively.
The downsides, compared to the more expensive counterparts include the lack of the weather sealing and 5-axis stabilization that are present both in the E-M1 an E-M10. However, there is 3-axis VCM image stabilization in the E-M10
To sweeten the deal, Olympus announced several accessories that will make the E-M10 even better.
When it comes to its looks, the E-M10 is another example of wonderful retro design that is taking over the camera world these days. Stunning metal body holds two old-fashioned dials that both serve the design purpose and increase functionality while giving the camera a sturdier look. The grip is made in a way that it seems like it sticks to your hand, giving you more confidence even though the camera is smaller than many others.
To be honest, there are some reasons that might make the smaller price understandable, but having in mind all the perks you get that are also featured in a lot more expensive models, we have to say that the Olympus E-M10 is a great purchase, well worth the money. There are not many cameras of this capability for this price out there.
