When you think about homes set in the mountains, you probably imagine a rustic old cabin deep in the woods with nothing but the basic furniture and a warm fireplace. However, that needn’t be the case as talented architects from all over the world are reimagining the old mountain homes so they can fit better into the modern world. Mountain Modern: Contemporary Homes in High Places by Dominic Bradbury takes us on a tour of all of these modern mountain homes.
With 415 photographs taken by Richard Powers, this work showcases houses separated in three sections: cabins, chalets and villas. Each of the photos detail the architecture of the house, its exterior and interior design and immediate surroundings.
Along with the photos, you are given a detailed insight into the design of each home through the architectural plans of these wonderful homes. As if the photographs and plans weren’t enough, the author included texts which explain in detail how modern technologies were utilized in refreshing the homes, how they were made to better utilize their surroundings and how, in some cases, new architectural innovations were introduced in order to combine the modern with the rustic so that the homes provided modern comfort surrounded by pure nature.
Let Bradbury and Powers take you to a majestic journey from the Swiss Alps to California in Mountain Modern: Contemporary Homes in High Places so you can experience architectural ingenuity set in some of the most beautiful places in the world.
