Moon is an extremely accurate lunar globe that uses NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter topographic data to show you current lunar phases. This 3D replica will show you exactly how the surface of the moon is, with all the craters, elevations and details.
Just like we said, Moon is very accurate. It’s a 1/20 million replica that focuses on lunar phases we can see from the Earth. To see that, there’s an LED lights ring that is attached to the model and goes around the moon to illuminate those parts you would usually see from Earth but also to see “the dark side of the moon”.
Moon features three different modes: manual, in which you can rotate the light yourself, the demo mode that will show you the entire rotation in just 30 seconds and the live mode. This one represents the true rotation that lasts 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.80 seconds.
As for the dimensions, Moon has 14.5 x 13 x 7 inches. It’s made from polyurethane resin, powder coated steel and has an electronic board. You can get a smaller and a bigger one, depending on what you like more. The interesting thing about Moon is that it uses the same 64 KB memory capacity as the computer used to land Apollo 11 on the Moon in 1969.
Moon is currently being funded on Kickstarter and if you pledge, you can get all sorts of cool gifts, from Moon maps, postcards, patches, calendars and of course, the Moon model. watch video below
