LAYER 24 | BY MINUS-8

$598

San Francisco-based company Minus-8 is one of those watch manufacturers that view watches as refined time machines. Their watch collection is all about supreme craftsmanship and contemporary design. Just look at Layer 24. Although, at first glance, it looks rather simplistic and bare, Layer 24 is anything but. With its sapphire crystal face, NFC-enabled proprietary silicon band, powered by a Japanese automatic movement (Automatic Miyota 9120), this wristwatch is very complex and detailed.

As we mentioned, Layer 24’s face is made from sapphire crystal but not just any sapphire. This is Corundum, the second hardest diamond on the Moh’s Scale of hardness. The Corundum ensures excellent scratch resistance and durability. Layer 24’s case is made from stacked PVD-coated stainless steel or, to be more precise, the 316L steel which is very receptive to tight machining tolerances.

The watch’s display has three-hand timing and a date window, it is water resistant up to 10 ATM (100 metres / 330 feet), and has a power reserve of +41 hours. Layer 24 comes in four colour combinations – Black-Silver, Black-Red, Black-Gold and Gray. Needless to say, the style leaves nothing to be desired – it is sleek, elegant, timeless and sophisticated. To quote the manufacturer – “the watches (we create) are raw and crafted machines and that possess a clear point of view.” [via]
