BASECAMP BONN YOUNG HOSTEL | GERMANY
One of the best ways to use a vacant former warehouse is to make an indoor caravan park hostel! At least hotelier Michael Schloesser thought so and used the free space and old trailers to make an amazing retro hostel only two miles away from the center of Bonn. Basecamp Bonn Young Hostel was opened in August 2013 and became the first of its kind in the world.
This original hostel that occupies 1600 square meters has 120 beds in fifteen themed sleeping cars, two caravans and a couple of US Airstream trailers arranged in a circle to provide an authentic camp feeling. Each trailer is different, with its own unique and cozy look designed by Marion Seul, a film and TV outfitter. This German designer found her inspiration in mid – century Americana.
For haunting devotees there is a haunting lodge trailer with animal fur and deer horns, for boat lovers a houseboat with paddles, stern and life vest, for hippie fans a flower power arranged van. Some of the other trailers have names like “Formula 1”, “Safari”, “Nautilus” – redesigned after Jules Vernes’ novel, “Space Shuttle”, “Drag Queen”, “Big Ben”.
Basecamp Bonn Young Hostel offers single bed rooms, standard double rooms, deluxe two bed apartments and mixed dorms with 6 or 16 beds. Prices differ from 22 to 69 euro per night and all rates include breakfast, free wi-fi, taxes, free parking, towels and bed linen. There is also a communal kitchen equipped with a microwave, stove and fridge, outside BBQ and sport facilities.
A perfect place for relaxing, dining and making new friends with other “campers” is a small yard which every trailer has. It is equipped with a table, chairs, cushions, swings or sunbeds, depends on whether you chose to go “hunting”, “sailing” or to “safari”. watch video below
