ROCK RESTAURANT | ZANZIBAR

If you ever travel to the island of Zanzibar in East Africa, make sure you get to a tropical peninsula called Michanwi Pingwe where you will find a rather unique restaurant sitting on top of a rock, in the azure blue Indian Ocean, fittingly called ‘The Rock’.

A combination of a great location, beautiful sea view, and fantastic seafood, ‘The Rock’ is one of those restaurants that you simply have to try. Just imagine yourself sipping champagne and eating lobster fresh from the sea, king prawns with ginger and lime, seafood platter, fish carpaccio, or pineapple flambé while taking in the beautiful setting and gasping at panoramic views. Don’t be surprised if you catch yourself realizing that life is good after all.

Portions here are generous and the menu is reasonably priced. It comprises of mainly seafood, and seasonal fruits, while the wine selection is excellent.

The restaurant’s general manager Nigel Firman says that “the Rock Restaurant is a magical place and an experience you are never likely to forget”. Usually, you can reach the Rock Restaurant on foot while the sea is low, but should you stay at the restaurant until late into the evening, the staff will provide a boat service to get you back to the shore.

The restaurant is only a 10 minute-car-trip from Page, 45 minutes from Stone Town, and an hour and a half from the north cusp of the island.
