The purifying element can filter about 2000 liters before changing. The MiniWorks EX filter meets the NSF protocol P231 regarding the removal of 99.9% of bacteria and protozoa out of water. However, you should be aware that it is ineffective at neutralizing viruses in water. The filter can be cleaned entirely in the field without the need of special tools. With the AirSpring Accumulator (air spring pumping system), the microfilter is capable of pumping one liter of water per minute into any standard wide mouth bottle.
