When the famous French designer Philippe Starck designs something, be it furniture, a museum, a hotel, headphones, or a chandelier, the world takes notice. This time around, it was bicycle design that Starck had decided to have a go at. Behold M.A.S.S. electric bikes, the collaborative effort of Moustache Bikes and Starck. M.A.S.S. stands for Mud, Asphalt, Sand and Snow, and it actually represents a collection of electric bicycles.

The entire range is produced in France under the brand name S+Arckbike and is somewhat considered revolutionary in the discovery of bike territories. The M.A.S.S. range comprises of four brilliant concepts devised in accordance with four distinct territories. Starck says that he “wanted the bike to be able to go over all kinds of terrains and especially infinite and poetic territories”.

For instance, Mud bike has optimized gears, a dual-suspension frame and Shimano XTR brakes which are actually ideal for muddy / off-road terrains. Asphalt is available in two variants – a 25- and a 45-kilometre – and is perfect for moving quickly from place to place in urban environments. Sand has XL tires for good grip on sandy terrains and a rain cover with storage pockets. Snow model is, of course, light-coloured and has an arm fork which ensures ideal snow evacuation. Believe it or not, it even has a fur frame cover which shields the bike’s battery from low temperatures.
