There have been other waterproof MP3 players, but the new FINIS Neptune Waterproof Audio MP3 player is something else. It is a considerably superior upgrade of Finis’s previous product, SwiMP3 that has been around for five years already.
The best aspects of the previous generation were used here as well, such as amazing sound quality and revolutionary bone conduction system that works by sending vibrations to the inner ear through the cheekbones. This might sound a bit unnatural, but this is the way mammals hear under water, so it is most certainly natural and not uncomfortable at all.
This being said, it is clear that you do not need uncomfortable and often awkwardly fitting ear buds. They were replaced by pads that need to be placed on your cheek just next to your ear. The small speakers are attached to the goggles making it possible to swim and listen to your favorite music without any problems.
If you get bored of a particular song, you can use a small toggle switch on one of the speakers, but you should still arrange your playlist before you start swimming, because it’s not very likely that you’ll be shuffling through your songs while swimming.
The songs are easily uploaded from your computer through the charging cord, and, once you have the songs there the controls are pretty easy to use. It has 4GB of storage space and it also features a high contrast OLED screen showing the song, the artist’s name and play status. The Neptune is compatible with iTunes® and it plays various audio formats including AAC, MP3 and WMA.
After a full recharge you can use the FINIS Neptune for 8 hours and it is waterproof to 10 feet, making sure your favorite songs, audio books and podcasts are available even in water. [via]
