A Guide To Casio G-Shock Watches

If you need a tough watch, G-Shock is a perfect choice. The folks over at G-Shock’s development team wanted you to stop believing that watches are breakable items and after testing over 200 prototypes, they created the best combination. It follows the now famous Triple 10 concept – 10-meter free-fall endurance, 10-bar water resistance and a 10-year battery life. The first one was created in 1983 and ever since Casio made sure you have a variety of models to choose from. Of course, all of them have at least some features in common and bellow you can read what they are.

Design and Structure

G-Shock watches have an unbreakable case that protects the watch from free-fall shocks. The same applies both to the resin cases and the band. Additionally, all the important parts inside the watch are protected with cushioning materials. The band is made from a combination of urethane resin, has a 150-degree range of movement and provides the balance between comfort, wearability, and flexibility.

A bit more about its shock resistant features. Casio adopted knobby protective forms that will keep it safe from different impacts. This is not only useful for the case and band but also for the glass surface and buttons. The weight of the watch is carefully designed to give you stable hand movement. Also, the watch can operate normally under strong gravitational forces that surpass 15G.

Another important characteristic of G-Shock watches is the solar powered battery. It’s rechargeable through solar panels that are located on the face of the watch. This also means you don’t have to worry about the battery running low.

The self-adjusting timekeeping is super practical as it allows the watch to correct the time as you’re moving through different time zones. This is achieved thanks to a powerful amorphous antenna that controls 6-station radio wave reception. (two in Japan and one in North America, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China).

Since 2013, Casio upgraded the triple sensor technology to the 3rd generation. What it does is measures direction, barometric pressure/altitude, and temperature. Let us talk more about the movement. There are four main technologies that cover movement- tough solar, multi-band 6, auto hand home position correction and hybrid mount construction. They are all combined to offer reliability. Finally, GPS satellites are there for the current location, Daylight Saving Time status and automatic display of the correct time.

As for the models, they are separated into a few categories- metal/titanium series, origin models, vintage/classical models as well as a variety of limited editions. Check out some of the most popular models below.
