5 REASONS YOU SHOULD BE SPENDING MORE TIME OUTDOORS

SEE LINK

All of us, as a species, have become domesticated and unfortunately our lifestyles don’t allow us to spend much time outdoors anymore. With the evolution of technology and introduction of smart phones, gaming platforms, tablets and wireless internet we have become more interconnected than in any other period in history; we can instantly communicate with anyone across the globe and we can even draw any and all information that we need out of the air. However, as great as technology, interconnectedness and communication is, we have become extremely unhealthy and reclusive. We have moved ourselves away from nature and the negative effects can be seen everywhere you look. I think that it’s about time that we reconnect with our source and here are 5 great reasons why you should spend more time outdoors.

1. Your Stress Will Be Alleviated

Walking around in natural surroundings has a great effect on both the mind and the body; truth be told, we all need stress relief in our daily lives. Science has also started showing more in depth interest in what nature does to our bodies and they have actually discovered that people that spend more time outdoors in a lush green environment have far less Cortisol (The Stress Hormone) in their blood than their urban-bound counterparts; these people also report experiencing far less stress in their daily lives.

2. You Will Find A Better Connection

If you find yourself constantly surrounded by unnatural surroundings-be it the office or home- you are bound to find yourself becoming more depressed. Of course, this connection is a subjective experience but I can guarantee you that you will find a better connection; not only with yourself but with mother nature as well. Take a deep breath of fresh oxygen rich air and you will immediately feel better about yourself and about life in general.

3. Your Immune System Will Be Regenerated

The scientific data just keeps piling up, showing us that reconnecting with nature has numerous positive effects on us; including immune system regeneration. Being in a completely natural setting means that you are in an oxygen rich environment and increased oxygen leads to a better, stronger and healthier immune system. Combined with the decreased levels of Cortisol your immune system starts to regenerate itself naturally.

4. You’ll Discover New and Interesting Things

There’s nothing quite like being tantalized by the prospect of exploration and the air of adventure; you are guaranteed to have these if you remove yourself from your daily routine and spend time outdoors. There are always new and interesting things patiently waiting for our observation that can perk up our curiosity; you might find an interesting plant that you have never seen before or even discover a beautiful insect or animal that will completely stun you and leave you amazed. Besides, nobody can argue that removing yourself from the 4 walls that surround you at all times is an adventurous experience unto itself for the urban dweller.

5. It’s A Sobering Experience

There’s nothing quite like the complexity with which nature works and the more time that you spend among the wonders that mother earth has to offer, the more apparent they become. Being outdoors is truly a sobering experience when we realize that all of the majestic intricacies that surround us are as much a part of us as we are of them. We need to start looking after our environment and planet because without it, we won’t survive.

So, go outside, feel the sun on your face, take a deep breath and be amazed at this wonderful world that we live in. I hope that you enjoyed these 5 reasons why you should spend more time outdoors and that it inspires you to do just that.
